1. Overview

Your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy explains how Updatest handles your data. In short: Updatest does not collect personal data, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not sell user data to anyone. Any data shared by the app is strictly limited, optional, and described below.

2. What Information We Collect

We do not collect or store any personal information such as your name, email address, IP address, or payment details.

All license purchases and free trial activations are handled by our payment and licensing partner, Lemon Squeezy. Any personal information you provide during checkout (such as your email) is processed directly by them in accordance with their own privacy policy: https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.

3. The Updatest Network (Optional Feature)

The Updatest Network is an optional feature designed to help surface updates for apps that do not provide reliable or discoverable update information.

When the Updatest Network is enabled, Updatest may transmit the following limited technical information:

  • The application's bundle identifier, as defined by the app developer
  • The installed application version
  • A device identifier derived from a one-way hash of your system's hardware UUID, salted by Updatest

Bundle identifiers are public identifiers defined by the application developer and are already present on your system. They are commonly used by operating systems, developers, and update mechanisms to uniquely identify applications. They are not created by Updatest and do not contain personal information.

The device identifier is generated locally using a one-way cryptographic hash. The original hardware UUID cannot be recovered from it. It is used solely for deduplication and aggregation, and is not linked to your identity, account, license, or other activity outside of the Updatest Network.

No names, email addresses, IP addresses, hardware identifiers, usage behavior, or system information are collected or transmitted.

Participation in the Updatest Network is entirely optional. The feature is not available during the trial period and can be enabled or disabled at any time. Disabling the feature immediately stops any further data transmission.

4. How Updatest Works

Updatest runs entirely on your local machine and works with Homebrew to manage your applications. It does not upload or transmit information about your apps, system, or files, except when optional features such as the Updatest Network are explicitly enabled.

5. Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics to understand general website usage (e.g., page views, device type, referrer). Plausible is a privacy-first analytics provider that does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track individual visitors.

6. Data Retention

Updatest does not retain personal user data. For the Updatest Network, limited version reports associated with a device identifier may be retained temporarily to ensure accuracy, prevent stale results, and maintain the reliability of the service. This data is not linked to identifiable individuals and is periodically pruned.

Any purchase-related data is stored securely by Lemon Squeezy and subject to their retention policy.

7. Your Rights

If you made a purchase through Lemon Squeezy, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data through them. Updatest does not hold or control any of your personal data.

8. International Users

If you are located in the European Union, United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with privacy regulations, you should know that:

  • We do not collect, process, or store personal data such as names, contact information, or device identifiers.
  • All personal data is processed by Lemon Squeezy under their GDPR-compliant policies.
  • No personal user data is transmitted by the app. If the Updatest Network is enabled, only limited version information and public application identifiers are shared as described above.

9. Children's Privacy

Updatest is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect or process data from anyone under this age.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and may notify users through our website or in-app.
